Strategy for Your Business Legals

consulting Mar 15, 2022

As lightworkers, we can often feel overwhelmed and ignore the legal parts of our business, until something happens...like a pandemic. Let's get over this by recognising our enegertic state and strategies to approach law in our spiritual business. Below are 3 steps to use when learning about the legal parts of your business.

1. The intention behind the law

Why was the law created? What was the intention of the legislation at the time that it was made? How does this fit in society?

You might not agree with the law - it may not go far enough or be too restrictive. Whatever your view, your job is to know the perspective of the law-makers at the time.

For example, privacy laws are created to protect the individual from fraud, harassment and abuse of our personal space.

2. How does this law impact your business?

What do you need to know and understand in your business? What area of your business is affected by this law? Your client terms around refunds? Your clients' data management?

These are the practical actions in your business that are impacted by this law. Depending on your business model will impact what you have to consider and write up.

For example, how do you handle and what do you do with your client's personal information? Map out the data your collect, why, and what you do with it. This helps your marketing activity too.

3. Return to legislation and write it up

Begin to write your document about how your business implements this law. Include your language in how you handle your relationship with your clients.

Consider where and how do you show your documents to your clients.

Double-check any legal requirements about when you should show this document to your client.

Make sure that you are providing the terms or policies at the point where your client will want clarity in your relationship.

4. Your choice and risk

You can choose not to comply or go further than the law.  There is no defense to not knowing the law. This means you have an informed decision to not comply.

To not set out documents for your clients creates a lack of clarity and potential confusion and conflict with your clients in the future.
