What is Virtue in Self-Leadership?

embody Apr 04, 2022

Self-leadership is taking responsibility for your life experience and showing up fully for how you can be your best self. Virtues are excellent tools to deepen into your best self, here are the top 4 to empower yourself and others.

(1) Know Yourself

Know what here to do, what you are here to do, what your gifts are, and who you care for.

This is an all embracement and acceptance of all aspects of who you are. This is not about healing or being perfect, but self-awareness of vulnerabilities, strengths, and growth areas.

(2) Choose Courage and Growth

Do not choose to stay in comfort. When you guide another there is the courage to be challenged in sharing your knowledge. Everyone leads another person in some way. When comfort is a priority you stop being your best self.

(3) Connection with Others

This is through empathy and compassion in listening to others. Awareness of the 90% of communication that is not in the words - what is this silence and space? Ask questions from this space so that you can discover the truth of what someone is saying. Get curious and explore what they are truly saying and seeking to connect with you.

(4) Self-Responsibility

Leadership is your own feeling about the choices that you make in life. Negative feelings about choices create negative karma. Honour and account for how you feel to choose from an empowered place about your actions or inactions.

Own your mistakes and apologise when you have made assumptions that created misunderstandings. This builds trust in relationships.

Lean into those uncomfortable conversations with others, be truthful about challenges and choose hope as the outcome.

Encourage others to show up as their fullest self so we each take our role as leading our part in society. This helps encourage others to turn up fully doing their part. If we each show up fully then we build trust and come to solutions collectively.
