A way to weather all life - Yoga Nidra
Jan 27, 2022When we can move in the flow of energy as a witness in our practice, it can start to seep into our daily life.
The fullest experience of life brings all ranges of experiences to us. Some we love, and others we detest. How can we navigate this range with complete delight in its fullness? I curated a specific practice that focuses on the different energies of experience. Discover more on how it can support you below.
Why can I weather all my life experiences in a yoga nidra?
Yoga nidra is a powerful tool to be in the essence of our power to create our experience of life. To choose to become the witness and flow with the moment. We rest our awareness in the experience of being guided by voice alone - all senses are allowed to rest.
In the resting state of yoga nidra, we are transported to the hypnagogic brainwave state. This is that bridge between the subconscious and conscious minds. A place where we can weave synchronicity between our intention and karma to be cleared (samskaras). Life experience is something we control from within and no longer react to external events with the same emotional lack of control.
Through the practice of yoga nidra, we find that in our daily life the subtle shifts begin to happen - we have more space to witness our experience and respond from this position. There is greater patience. More space and time for listening and learning from others. Our mind begins to open to alternative perceptions. Forgiveness may become a welcome tool or even faster, we find that in the moment we accept what is completely.
What are Samskaras?
Simply put, these are the karmic subconscious programs running through your mind 90% of the time. They influence how we create our experience of life and what we draw to us. There will always be karma moving through as we live, we make karma, but this resting place teaches us to be more present as a witness to all that unfolds.
Why work with samskaras? Because we don’t want a sublevel program running our life. We all seek control and yet it is from within that we must control - these programs of thought and emotion. What we control must be refined to the energy of an experience and in yoga the simple tool of the gunas is a physical way to connect to the gunas.
What are the gunas?
This is the quality of an energy that weaves together the universe. For example, earth may be neutral and healthy, muddy and sludgy or dry and cracked or crumbly. These are the three qualities of gunas. These are called:
Tamas - stability or stagnation,
Rajas - action or change in motion, and
Sattva - consciousness or balance and harmony.
They are constantly shifting and changing, as does energy. When we are out of balance, the guna that we experience will be less desired. We must shift our physiological and emotional state towards the sattva quality.
This is how energy aligns to our life experiences. We may desire a specific quality of an experience yet our energy must align to that energy. If we are misaligned to that energy, we will experience the desired outcome but the energy may not be one that we want.
How does this yoga nidra practice aid weathering all life?
Through the journey you will be taken to a space of deep relaxation. From here there is an exploration of the gunas to practice being with these different qualities of energy. When we can move in the flow of energy as a witness in our practice, it can start to seep into our daily life.
We notice that we are in full awe of all energetic qualities, and when it is undesired, it becomes a tool for self-reflection and growth of how to refine our inner qualities further in our practice.
